1. It's Smaller Than The Free Cities

The King's Landing, the capital of Westeros, is large and densely populated. However, it is actually smaller than the towns of Essos.

It is estimated that there is more than five million people living there in the books, which is why the King's Landing is densely populated. Its size is only comparable to Oldtown in the Maesters of Westeros.

2. Why Daenerys Chose to Destroy King's Landing

We’ve already heard some behind-the-scenes reasoning for Dany’s rampage, like when co-showrunner D.B. Weiss explained in HBO’s post-episode breakdown, “She sees the Red Keep, which is, to her, the home that her family built when they first came over to this country 300 years ago. It’s in that moment, on the walls of King’s Landing, when she’s looking at that symbol of everything that was taken from her, when she makes the decision to make this personal.”

3.Why Are There Seven Gates Guarding The City?

Seven is important to Westerosi culture. The dominant religion follows the "Seven Beliefs", which explains why during the construction of the King's Landing, the conqueror built seven gates on the walls.

4. It Has Its Own Military Power

Especially considering that the city is also home to Red Keep and the royal family, densely populated city like King's Landing requires some kinds of law enforcement, so The City Watch is also known as the Golden Cloaks, which guards the city.

The King's Landing City Watcher is estimated to be 2,000 soldiers and can be identified by their golden cloaks and uniforms.

5. Two Septs Were Destroyed By Fire

The second Targaryen monarch, the Faith revolted against the crown and seized the Sept of Remembrance and the newly built Red Keep during the reign of Maegor the Cruel. Maegor destroyed the sept with his dragon Ballerion and built the Dragonpit over its ashes.
