Have you ever wondered what happens after ‘happily ever after’? Well, we certainly have! We’re not the only ones, either. Even some trained psychologists have weighed in on the matter- and here are their skilled predictions as to who has the staying power, and who doesn’t.

After all, while it’s easy to buy into the automatic ‘happily ever after’ as a child, rewatching Disney cartoons as an adult may well have you wondering if the couple will have any future together. Which Disney power couples will last longer than the end credits? We take a closer look.

1. Cinderella and Prince Charming ( Cinderella )

Let’s kick off the list with possibly the most iconic Disney couple ever. Despite the undeniable romance of this classic Disney tale, let’s get brutally honest- a 5-minute romantic dance and a lost shoe don’t seem the best things to build a future on.

Cinders is patient and works hard, but she’s dreamy and wants to wish her troubles away. Of course, it’s a fairy tale, so she gets the chance to have luck and magic on her side.

The Prince, however, simply seems absent-minded and spoiled. Who needs to fit a shoe to identify someone you’re ‘madly in love’ with? Was he just going to marry the first girl with a dainty foot he found? He comes across impatient and impulsive.

The Verdict: For this pair of lovebirds, probably bad. Neither seems like problem solvers- Cinders will be too shy to speak up, and the Prince will just run away from the issue. Combine that with his impulsive nature and it’s not good news for long term love.

2. Anna and Kristoff ( Frozen )

While that’s a bit of a bum note for our previous iconic couple, what about the new Disney Royalty? As parents everywhere know, there’s been no hit lately quite like Frozen- so how will this pair fare?

Well, Anna is thoroughly likable. From her joie de vivre to her sense of responsibility and desire to help others, you just can’t not like her. She may have been naive to start, but she shapes up throughout the Frozen movies into a strong and spirited Princess.

Kristoff is simple, but infinitely nice. He brings loyalty, strength, honesty, and kindness to the table. Sure, he’s a bit grumpy and lazy, and we see a little selfishness, but despite his introverted habits, he comes across as a solid guy.

The Verdict: Anna has a reliable partner in the works here, and he has infinite faith in her. In turn, she should inspire him to extra focus and greater courage. This seems like a match made in heaven, honestly.

3. Ariel and Eric ( The Little Mermaid )

This Disney romance is probably one of the most questioned throughout film history. Ariel gives up so much to net herself her prince, and he doesn’t even seem to care a lot for his responsibilities and kingdom. Will the weight of so much sacrifice weigh on Ariel over time?

Well, Ariel is honest, but she’s shockingly naive and ridiculously impulsive, with very little sign of being able to care for others over herself. She runs off and ditches everything in a heartbeat for a man she met once briefly.

Eric isn’t much better. He’s adventurous, but not the brightest bulb in the lamp, and seems to be thoroughly irresponsible as a monarch.

The Verdict: This one could go either way. Either this pair of dreamers will live happily ever after in their dim, but adventurous, love, or they’ll split up as soon as the novelty wears off.

4. Shrek and Fiona ( Shrek )

Not your classic Disney couple, but perhaps one of the most beloved pairings out there!

Fiona starts as the iconic stuck princess in a tower, dreaming about love with little knowledge of the real world. With low self-esteem from her ogre looks, she still manages to be active and strong.

Shrek hides a sensitive and loyal heart under a gruff, ‘lone wolf’ exterior, but he’s also a little stubborn and selfish. Falling in love brought his better qualities to the surface, but he’s still imperfect.

The Verdict: This pair, unlike many Disney couples, are legitimately great for each other. Together they grow to be better people than when alone, and learn to accept themselves along the way too. They also learn to solve problems together. If ever there was a Disney couple who’d last the distance, it will be this pair.

While not every Disney couple is as perfect for each other as their love story may imply, there’s certainly a few who seem to have the staying power to be healthy, happy couples for the whole of ‘happily ever after’. Who’s your favorite Disney pair of lovebirds? Let us know below!
