Winter of 2022 took the world by a storm as it came with a lot of notable anime, most specifically, Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer, which have been fan favourites for a long time.

But out of all this anime, one such anime was so surprising that when it started airing, fans were left shocked at how good it was. That anime was My Dress-up Darling.

Fans were so excited to see the series, especially its female protagonist, Marin Kitagawa, that it ranked fourth among all the anime released that season with a rating of 8.31, a feat that only a few romance anime have achieved. After the first season ended, fans stormed the social media and demanded a second season.

And six months later, their wishes have been fulfilled as it has been officially announced that the famous series is returning for a second season with production to be started as early as possible.

Setting of Season Two

Season two will start off where the first one left, with Gojou helping out Marin with her cosplay passion, making her dresses for it and learning new things about the cosplay world.

The usual characters will appear along with some new characters and some interesting development between Gojou and Marin.

The main point of season two will be the development between Marin and Gojou, how they will tackle new challenges related to cosplay and Gojou making friends outside of the cosplay world.

We do know from the first season that Marin loves (or as Marin says, wuvs) Gojou, but whether Gojou feels the same or not was not expressly said in the first season.

So the second season will also explore the romantic side of the story in addition to other story arcs.

Plot and What Happened In Season One

The plot of My Dress-up Darling revolves around Wakana Gojou, a high school student who lost his parents earlier in his life and is living with his grandfather, who makes Hina dolls as his business. Gojou helps his grandfather all the time, and thus has no friends.

This goes on until one day, Marin Kitagawa, who is one of the most popular girls at his school, sees Gojou sewing clothes for his Hina doll in school and asks him to make her a dress of her favorite character Suzuku-Tan. Gojou hesitates, but accepts the offer.

The rest of the season follows Gojou, as he overcomes his shyness towards girls, especially Marin, how he adapts to making cosplay dresses for Marin, and his friendship with other cosplayers, like Sajuna Inui and Shinju Inui, for whom he also makes dresses for.

What Can Fans Expect From Season Two

Since the first season contained 12 episodes, fans can expect the same treatment with the second season. No format has been made official as of yet but it's highly probable that it will continue in a series format instead of a movie format. The first five volumes of the Manga were adapted into the first season (upto 39th chapter), so the second season could also contain volumes six to ten.

The opening theme song and the ending song hasn't been revealed yet, but if it's anything like what the first season offered, it's going to be a banger.

The opening theme for the first season was Sansa Days by Spira Spica while the ending theme was Koi no Yukue by Akari Akase.

Voice actors are expected to be the same, and studios don't normally change the actors for the sequel.

Gojou Wakana was voiced by Shoya Ishige (and Tomoyo Takayanagi acting as young Gojou), while Marin Kitagawa was voiced by Hina Suguta. Other characters, such as Shinju and Sajuna Inui were voiced by Hina Yoimiya and Atsumi Tanezaki respectively.

At this point these are all speculations, but due to the high demand, fans can expect to see their favorite characters animated by the end of 2023.

We know it's a bummer that fans would have to wait this long, but also keep in mind that it takes a lot to produce an anime of this caliber. The more the fans wait, the better the results will be.

There are officially translated seven volumes of My Dress-up Darling available both online and in stores, so fans can read those if they don't want to wait a year or more for the animations.

The rest of the volumes are expected to be translated as early as possible due to the high demand of the series.
