Oh, Disneyland. The magical park that holds a special place in all our hearts. While Disneyland is a place that many people only get to experience once in their life, there are a lucky few whose dream of being a Disney princess has come true. While being a Disney princess is everything many little girls have ever wanted, it turns out it is actually a much harder job than you may think, and there are a lot of secrets involved!

You must keep the secret of the Disney magic!

Disney princesses and other Disney characters must never reveal their true identity. There are strict policies in place such as those relating to social, in which characters can never post a photo of themselves dressed as or reveal that they are the character that they play.

The audition process is HARD

The audition process, which lasts for roughly eight hours, is simply an audition for a character role. Disney princesses do not get to choose who they play and will often play several characters if they are successful. As such, the role casters often look for women who look similar to those actors already cast rather than a specific princess. This way, they are able to swap roles around without too much confusion. It is also extremely competitive to land the role of a Disney princess. While it is not necessary, prior to acting, dancing and singing skills give actors an edge over the others competing for the job!

There is a lot of training involved

As a Disney princess, you have to know everything about your character or characters. It is essential for you to remember every small detail about your role, so you are able to maintain your character at all times and answer any question thrown at you. You must also undergo signature training for your character. This is actually quite important, as it keeps the magic alive. A signature that you may have received from Princess Aurora 20 years ago, will look the same as one that you get today. Very cool for us, but quite tricky for those princesses! You also have to learn how to walk and talk like your character, including their mannerisms, and to top it all off, you have to learn the specific makeup application for your character. Phew!

Before you can be a princess, you have to be a fur character!

Okay, so these actors go through the massive effort of training to become a princess, so now the fun begins, right? Nope! Before you get to be a princess, you have to first master the art of the fur character, such as Minnie Mouse or Donald Duck!

The pay is kind of sucky

Conditions for a Disney princess are tough. Think about it – regardless of whether it is snowing, sweltering or storming, those princesses are stuck wearing their heavy (or skimpy for some!) costumes despite the weather. You always have to stay in character, even when cheeky teenagers try to break you, or if there is an emergency. A shift lasts for 8 hours, and the pay is only just above minimum wage.

Okay, this one is exciting! Apparently, there are secret tunnels hidden around every Disneyland in order for characters to move around the park quickly and discretely. At some parks, there is also housing for the crew to live in!

So, do you still want to be a Disney princess?
