The 7-year-old boy named Ravindranath kept complaining of swelling on the right side of his lower jaw. His parents all concerned about him finally took him to Saveetha Dental College. Ravindranath said that he has been experiencing the swelling since he was three years old, as reported by India's National Herald, but the condition had only worsened over time and required immediate medical attention.

The boy's jaw was then X-rayed only to reveal a sack of tissues weighing 200 grams said the doctors. The surprising factor is that it contained 526 teeth-like structures.

According to CBS, the sack was basically a "compound composite odontoma," which is a benign tumour made up of normal dental tissue such as enamel etc. Such tumours are a commodity among teenagers.

Dr. Vineet Dhar, the chair of orthodontics and pediatric dentistry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, said that these sacks are very common and usually contain "a cluster of around four to five, or less" teeth. "Most of them were calcified, enamel-like structures, but they would not be called teeth," he stated.

The Times of India reported that some were only a 10th of a millimeter, while the slightly larger ones were up to 15 millimeters.

"It was reminiscent of pearls in an oyster."
