Having a house of themselves is a dream for almost every human on this planet. We work hard to get that dream house. Pay mortgages for our life just to enjoy the peace of the place we can call home.

Until a few years ago, the dream was to have as big a house as possible. However, over the years, the idea of a home has taken a turn. The younger generation is finding life to be too busy, and housing market inflation is just adding up to the stresses. In this situation, the most hit idea seems to be turning busses on wheels into tiny independent homes.

Meet Jessie one of such young people who found her dream home in an old rusted bus. Jessie left her New York life to live a small life in a tinny cozy home made out of an old bus. New York sure has a lot to offer but a lot of people find themselves something more subtle after living in New York.

Jessie’s family was not the most supportive during the decision making process. Understandably her parents were worried about her throwing a normal flourishing life away. However, they also tried to make the best of it by not being too naggy. Her mother did give her motivation by saying that maybe only Jessie can make it happen.

Jessie had enjoyed the life to the fullest in her corporate career living in New York, but now she wanted something else in life. She first looked for RVs that are designed to live in, but she didn’t find them compatible with her idea of the house.

She started her search for a home on the internet. She came across this 1966 GMC bus on eBay and she immediately knew that this is it. She bought the bus for $7000.

So,  now the project was with her but it was not as easy as one would think. Jessie had a  journey of three years ahead of her to make this transportation vehicle into a home. This greyhound bus was obviously old and needed extreme repair which involved moving it to different places. The hilarious part about this story is that Jessie hadn't gotten her driving license yet when she bought the bus.

The bus was not in use for a long time which means it needed all sorts of repairs. Jessie started clearing up the bus. She took out all the seating from the bus with the help of professionals and cleaned the whole floor which turned out to be pretty dirty and rusty like the rest of the bus.

Jessie is a person who likes to do DIY projects but the bus was not just a DIY project. She needed people to help her with plumbing and wiring before anything else goes on the bus. In the meantime, Jessie was also struggling to transition from city life to this small living style. Every step that was making her close to her dream home was also making her anxious that if she is going to be able to settle in.

The love for travel was something that kept her going and working toward this dream. She had seen the bustling life of Manhattan and now not only she wanted a simple lifestyle but some amazing road trip experiences too. The bus that was going to be her home on wheels was her hope for that.

The bus not only needed a makeover inside but outside of the bus was also miserable. Jessie painted the bus from the outside and added weatherproofing to the bus to make sure that the house remained safe from changing weather. White was ideal for a home that was going to stay under the sun as it will help it in staying cool.

The next step needed a lot more people to help her design and put the thing together. The most important job was as a carpenter and her friends extended their help in finding her the best people in town. The first step here was to decide how much space she wants to use. The goal was to make it a very livable place without adding too much clutter. Keeping it look wide was another hard task while measuring and fitting things.

When the bus started to take the shape of a home, it was the best feeling for Jessie. Her imagination was turning into this beautiful reality that she could call home. The old rusty bus was looking like a place where you could sit down and have a cup of tea.

Finishing the house was the most interesting process that made the house look the way it looks now, cozy and homey. Another aspect of having a mobile home is that a lot of thighs can not be done like in normal homes. Everything should be sturdy enough to handle the moving of the vehicle. The cabinets are supposed to remain closed even when on a bumpy road. They did make it happen.

She has tried to keep the overall vibe of the house simple and elegant. A wooden floor with lots of white makes the whole thing look wider and much bigger than it actually is. Jessie has also kept the windows which allows a lot of daylight to come and make the whole place look brighter. This small house has everything that a person can need to live a comfortable life.

A fully functional kitchen was something that Jessie did not want to compromise on and that is exactly what she did. Plenty of counter space with a gas stove and a big sink to wash dishes.  A decent size fridge is also part of the kitchen area. Jessie loves to cook meals for herself and loves to host guests too.

The bed and living area were other places that needed to be something close to Jessie’s heart. She could not use a lot of space but she made sure that a good size bed is incorporated in there. The bedroom has a  huge window that makes it a cozy place to hang out in the daytime and at night it is a great place to do star gazing.

A closet big enough to store all of Jessie’s clothes is also attached to the bedroom, making it ideal. There are full lights mirrors on the doors of the closet. They save space and give a full view before you go out.

The bedroom also has a great collection of books by the window. The bathroom is also a great feature of the house. It has a good size sink and shower area. All the grey water of the house goes down in a tank that is mounted to the bus. The whole idea of a small idea goes with Jessie’s idea of life. She is a vegan and a small house means a small carbon footprint to help the earth breathe.

This house on wheels is not just perfect for Jessie to live in, but it also has the capacity to help some guests stay over. A lot of pieces of furniture can be taken apart to be able to help multiple people accommodate. Storage spaces under the living area allow Jessie to keep extra supplies for any guests.

Jessie has put a lot of thought in to every corner of the house. Each part tells you a different story. She has even kept a few pieces from the old bus to pay tribute to its services. The old number plate of the bus is a permanent feature of the house which reminds us that this bus once helped thousands of people reach their destinations.

What Jessie did was incredibly amazing. In today’s world, she is not the only person who wants this peace in life. Most of us a looking for some way to get out of our stressful lives and Jessie just an ordinary millennial proved that all of us can do that. After spending a decent amount of time in the bus house, Jessie is offering it as BNB to people who want to experience this life. It is simple, eco-friendly, and helps you see the world up close as you have never before.

That brings an end to Jessie's journey of transforming a bus into her new home.
